Guide · Verifactu on the Bouzon Digital POS
Your digital certificate for Verifactu, step by step
For the POS to sign your invoices and send them to the Spanish Tax Agency, it needs your business’s digital certificate. It is your only step: you do not register anywhere or file any form. You do it once, only renew it when it expires and, if you are self-employed, it is free.
In one line: you request the certificate from the FNMT, verify your identity, download it keeping the backup copy and upload that file to the panel. Already have one? Skip to uploading it.
Which certificate you need
You are self-employed (autónomo)
FNMT citizen certificate (persona física)
Free. It carries your NIF or NIE. It is the same one used for the tax office or Social Security: if you already have one and it is valid, it works.
Your business is an SL or SA with a sole or joint-and-several director
Sole or joint-and-several director representative certificate
€24 + taxes and valid for 2 years. Requested online with the director’s personal certificate or electronic ID card (DNIe), with no office visit.
Other companies and entities
The matching representative certificate
Joint directors, managing directors, cooperatives, associations, joint ownerships (comunidades de bienes)… The FNMT has one for each case. If you are not sure which is yours, write to us and we will check it with you.
The rule that never fails: the certificate must be in the name of the business holder. The tax ID it carries must be the same as the VAT ID in your tax details in the panel. That is why your accountant’s certificate does not work, nor — if your business is an SL — your personal certificate: it carries your tax ID, not the company’s.
If you are self-employed: your certificate in four steps
Everything starts on the FNMT website (in Spanish).
-
Install the FNMT Configurator
On sede.fnmt.gob.es ▸ Certificados ▸ Persona física, download the “Configurador FNMT-RCM” for your computer. Do it on the same computer where you will later download the certificate.
-
Request the certificate
Fill in the request with your NIF or NIE, your first surname and your email. The Configurator will ask you for a password: write it down, because you will need it to download the certificate and to upload it to the POS. A request code arrives by email.
-
Verify your identity
Pick whichever way suits you best (the three are explained right below). Any of them leaves the certificate ready to download.
-
Download it and save the backup copy
Go to the download page with your NIF or NIE, first surname and the code, from the same computer where you requested it. When the Configurator asks whether you want a backup copy, say yes and save it: that file (.p12 or .pfx) is the one you upload to the POS, protected by the password from step 2.
Three ways to verify your identity (step 3)
| In person · free | At an identity-verification office (Tax Agency, Social Security and many town halls), usually by appointment. Bring the code and your DNI; if you are a foreign national, your NIE with the TIE or the EU citizen registration certificate, plus your passport. The certificate can be downloaded about an hour later. |
| By video call · €2.99 + taxes | From home, but only with a valid electronic DNI: it is not available with an NIE. The FNMT reviews the call within about 48 business hours. |
| With your electronic DNI and a card reader | If you have the DNIe with its PIN and a card reader, it is done online, with no appointment or video call. |
If your business is an SL: the director certificate
For public and private limited companies whose sole or joint-and-several director has the position registered in the Companies Register. If your case is different, see the third card above.
-
First get your personal certificate (the steps above) or have your electronic DNI and its PIN at hand.
-
With it, request the “certificado de representante de administrador único o solidario” on sede.fnmt.gob.es. It is paid by card (€24 + taxes) and there is no office to visit.
-
About an hour later, download it on the same computer and save the backup copy (.p12 or .pfx). It lasts 2 years.
Upload it to the POS
-
Check your tax details
In Settings ▸ Business Info, the VAT ID must be the same one the certificate carries: the panel checks it before accepting it.
-
Upload the file
In Settings ▸ Verifactu ▸ “Upload .pfx certificate”, choose the .pfx or .p12 file, type its password and press “Upload and validate”.
-
Check that it is active
You will see “Active certificate” with the holder and the expiry date. The mode “Verifactu — sent to the AEAT” is chosen on that same screen; if you prefer, we set it up with you during onboarding.
If the panel tells you…
| “The certificate does not belong to this business’s holder” | The certificate’s tax ID does not match the VAT ID in your tax details. Check it in Settings ▸ Business Info, or make sure the certificate belongs to the business and not to you personally or to your accountant. |
| “Wrong password or corrupt file” | Use the password you set when you requested the certificate (or when you exported it, if you took it from your computer). |
| “The certificate is already expired” | Renew it or request a new one from the FNMT and upload it again. |
| “The venue’s fiscal data (tax ID) is missing…” | First fill in the legal name and VAT ID in Settings ▸ Business Info. |
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to register anywhere or file any form to use Verifactu?
No. There is no software register to sign up to, and no form to file before you start sending. Your only step is getting your business’s digital certificate and uploading it to the POS.
Can I use the certificate I already use with the tax office?
Yes, if it belongs to the business holder — yours if you are self-employed, the company representative’s if it is an SL — and it is still valid. If it is installed on your computer but you do not have the file, you can export it (next question).
It is installed on my computer. How do I get the .pfx file?
On Windows: “Internet Options” ▸ Content ▸ Certificates, select it, press “Export”, choose to export the private key and give it a password. On a Mac: open “Keychain Access”, right-click the certificate ▸ Export, in .p12 format. In Firefox: Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ View Certificates ▸ Backup. If it will not let you export the private key, you have to request the certificate again.
Can I use my accountant’s certificate?
No. It carries the accountant’s tax ID, and the POS only accepts the certificate of the business holder. Your accountant can help you request yours.
How much does it cost?
From the FNMT: the citizen certificate is free (the video call, if you choose it, costs €2.99 + taxes) and the sole or joint-and-several director certificate is €24 + taxes. On our side, Verifactu is included in the POS fee, with no extra cost.
What happens when it expires?
The panel shows the expiry date and the days left. Renew it with the FNMT before that date and upload the new one from “Upload .pfx certificate”, on the same screen: it replaces the old one.
What do you do with my certificate?
It is stored encrypted and only used to sign and send your invoicing records to the Spanish Tax Agency. It is not included in the panel’s data exports.
Will you help me do it?
Yes. POS onboarding includes setting up Verifactu with your certificate, by video call anywhere in Spain or in person in Benalmádena and on the Costa del Sol. If you get stuck on any step, write to us.
Verifactu, included in the POS
The Bouzon Digital POS is Verifactu-certified and includes it in the €29.99/month fee, with no separate module. Onboarding, with your certificate already set up, is included.
